ATLANTA (July 1) Dawn Smith and Kristen Files are proud to announce the formation of Smith & Files LLC; a law firm continuing to provide excellence for families undergoing transitions, including high conflict custody and complex divorce cases.
Dawn Smith and Kristen Files bring decades of experience to the issues facing today’s families. Their breadth of experience and perspective allow Smith & Files to craft and achieve smart solutions that fit each client’s situation. Moreover, their experience as Georgia attorneys creates the opportunity to represent spouses, partners, mothers and fathers facing issues from divorce to child custody to domestic violence.
The partnership of Smith & Files, pairing as named partners of different races, is regrettably rare to nonexistent in the Atlanta legal community, yet long overdue. The establishment of Smith & Files comes after hard work, uncomfortable conversations and a commitment to model for women and the legal world how we can all work to break down barriers of access and equality.
The all-female lawyers of Smith & Files are also required to carry pro bono work. Kristen Files currently serves on the boards of the DeKalb Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence as well as a mentor through GABWA’s Women to Women program. Laura Sclafani was an integral part of the family law division of Atlanta Legal Aid prior to joining us and continues to serve on ALA Service Council. Dawn Smith is the Chair of DeKalb Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and on the Board of the Atlanta Bar Family Law Section, in addition to past recipient of Atlanta Legal Aid’s Volunteer of the Year Award. All of our lawyers are members of the State Bar of Georgia Family Law Inclusion and Diversity Committee.
