ATLANTA (August 25) – Kristen Files, Smith + Files attorney, recently attended an 8-day Family Law Trial Advocacy program, in Boulder, Colorado, sponsored by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA). She was one of 46 attorneys from across the country selected to participate in this elite, once-a-year, training.

NITA is a select, non-profit, training organization, that promotes justice by improving the quality of courtroom advocacy. It combines classroom instruction with a learn-by-doing approach. Its lawyer-students are assigned a realistic case in which they represent a realistic client.

The program covers all of the skills used in a divorce proceeding, including examination of witnesses, introduction of exhibits, making and meeting objections, opening statement, and closing argument. Participants work in a simulated courtroom environment and hone their trial skills through performance and receive constructive feedback from experienced instructors.
